A group of riders are looking to raise over £100,000 for Cancer Research in June by riding from Land’s End to John O’ Groats in 24 hours on bikes worth less than £300.
“The Longest Day Down started as just a few mates on an internet forum,” said series organiser John McAvoy. “Riders set off from Land’s End at sunrise on the longest day, to ride to John O’ Groats before sunrise the next day. You get a strange mix of bikes – crash-damaged sportsbikes, mega-mile commuters and Chinese 125s.” And this year MCNs Matt Wildee will be taking part in the event on an 87,000-mile fur-covered Yamaha XJ900.
To make things more difficult, the riders are not allowed to use motorways, or deviate from a route that includes a series of pit stops.
